URN support.Currently URNs are not deployed outside of test environments and most of the standards have not been matured for use in a production environment. Although we solicited feedback on the Mirror Tracker URN work on the IETF's URN Working Group mailing list, there was very little interest.
By virtue of its widespread deployment, Squid makes a very suitable candidate for deploying URNs for mirrored resources, at least in a testbed scenario. Having said this, its URN support is inflexible, and not particularly robust.
In order to update our list of FTP servers custom parsers of the comp.*.announce newsgroups and Website like freshmeat.net are needed.
URNs (and FTP Mirror Tracker) need to be more widely promoted within the Internet community - for example, by setting up a Website and mailing lists for URN software developers and users.
